No, never. Switching electricity suppliers is entirely separate from your physical electricity supply. The power lines and local utility infrastructure stay the same — only the company that generates your electricity changes. Your local utility continues to deliver power and handle emergencies regardless of which supplier you use.
GridSaver charges $4.99/month for continuous rate monitoring. We also earn a referral fee from energy suppliers when you switch through our service — this is paid by the supplier, not you. You keep 100% of your electricity savings.
We scan rates every night across 47+ suppliers in your state. When we find a rate that saves you $5 or more per month, we alert you immediately so you can decide whether to switch.
You're always in full control. GridSaver monitors rates and sends you alerts — but you decide whether to switch. When you receive an alert, you can simply ignore it or click through to the supplier's website to switch at your own pace. GridSaver never switches your supplier automatically.

Eligibility & Coverage
We currently support the 9 fully deregulated US states where residential customers can choose their electricity supplier: Texas, Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois, Ohio, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Maryland. We're expanding to additional states in 2026.
Unfortunately not yet. In regulated states, there's a single utility that sets rates — customers can't choose a different supplier. We're monitoring regulatory changes in states moving toward deregulation. Sign up to be notified when we expand to your state.
Yes. We'll still scan and analyze rates. If you're under contract, we factor in any early termination fee — we'll only flag a switch if the savings more than cover the fee. We'll also track your contract end date and alert you when a great rate aligns with your contract expiry.
Solar & SREC Credits
Solar Renewable Energy Credits. If you have solar panels, your system generates 1 SREC for every 1,000 kWh of electricity produced. In deregulated states like MD, NJ, MA, and others, you can sell these credits to utilities for cash — typically $60–$450 each depending on state and current market conditions.
Maryland, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and New York all have active SREC markets. Texas and Illinois have different renewable energy programs. GridSaver tracks SREC prices in all supported states.
Just add your solar panel details in Profile → Solar & SREC. Enter your system size (kW) and install date. GridSaver will estimate your annual generation and alert you when SREC prices move significantly — so you never miss a good selling window.
Privacy & Security
We store your name, email, address, energy preferences, and switch history. We do not store your utility login credentials, Social Security number, or full payment details (Stripe handles payments with PCI-DSS compliance). You can request data deletion at any time.
No. We share only the minimum information required to process a switch request (name, address, account reference) with the specific supplier you're switching to, and only when you've chosen to switch. We never sell your data to third parties for marketing purposes.
